Hello! My name is Shelah and I have been teaching adult beginners to play the fiddle and violin for over 35 years.
I am thrilled that you are interested in fiddle or classical violin.
I believe lessons are a three-way conversation between you, me and your instrument. The more we connect, the greater the result. Private lessons are available in person, within {x miles of location} and online.

I have had a fantastic experience studying fiddle with Shelah. At almost 50 years old, I decided to take up the fiddle with no prior violin or fiddle experience . Shelah has been incredibly patient with an adult learner. Her technique got me up and playing almost instantly. A year later I have 14 tunes in my repertoire, without even needing to read music. I have learned music of several different styles, each highlighting a specific technique. Not only am I enjoying playing at home and learning new tunes, I have already been able to go to my local beginners bluegrass jam and play with other, more accomplished musicians. Shelah has structured everything so that I am continually challenged without getting frustrated. She has a very keen sense of how much pushing is just enough. I look forward to every lesson and her wonderful personality makes every meeting fun.

I am 4-time Southern California fiddle champ, 18-year head fiddle judge at the Topanga Banjo/Fiddle contest. I was a park musician at Knott's Berry Farm and Magic Mountain, studio vocals and violin, and toured to Japan with Knott’s and around the USA.
I also run a jam in Fountain Valley 2nd Thursday of each month from 5-8pm. We have lots of folks come and just listen while the rest of us play!
